Different ways to cook steaks
Steaks are a favorite and no supper is complete without steaks. Whenever you think of a family get-together, the unanimous choice is steaks. The best part about steaks is the high protein content because it is basically muscle fibers of an animal (like buffalo, bison or cow) and the way you cook steak helps to preserve or destroy its high protein content. Hence, it is very important to know the different ways to cook steaks because although taste does matter, the nutritious value of foods matters even more.
One very commonly used method to cook steaks is to deep fry them. Pieces of steaks cut in appropriate sizes and let it get deeply fried in hot oil. The choice of oil also could help increase the nutritive value. Vegetable oils like canola oil and sunflower oils are considered superior oils to deep fry food items. The best part about deep frying steaks is it ensures thorough cooking of the same and also adds a lot of flavor and crunchiness to the steak pieces. The major disadvantage of this method is it destroys most of the protein content and in turn, increases the fat intake and thus makes it a very heavy meal to digest.
Another favorite method of cooking steaks is roasting them in few drops of oil. In such cases, olive oil is used because it is lighter than other oils and also adds a nice flavor to the steaks. The advantage of roasting over deep frying is it reduces the fat content of the steaks and the protein content is better. However, again roasting causes the loss of some nutritive value of the steaks and also, it is not as crunchy as the earlier one. Be careful to cook it properly and completely because it takes a longer time to cook with this method.
Grilling the steaks is a better method as compared to deep frying and roasting. In this method, the steak pieces are left to roast in fire and thus, it is the direct heat that cooks it. Also, as need be, the steak pieces can be coated with various spices or syrups or juices and this can add special flavor to the same. Also, this method causes the layer on the outside to harden. This locks all the proteins inside the thick layer that is exposed to the fire. This way, even though direct heat is used to cook the steaks, the protein content is higher and also all the juices and other nutrients are locked inside and thus what you end up eating is more nutritious and tasty. Also, this method is easier because it does not need as much monitoring as the roasting and deep frying methods.
Baking is the best option available wherein you just need to preheat the oven to a set temperature and then bake the steaks. The advantage is this is the most nutritious method and does not require much attention. The drawback is it takes a longer time and hence requires planning ahead of time.
